Attend one of our events

There's no better way to learn about wine than tasting comparatively, talking about it while you're tasting it ("so that's why this wine tastes different than that!"), and hearing about the wine's background. (Plus, it's the most fun you'll ever have learning something.)

South African Winery Tasting with Oak Valley & Waterkloof Wineries

South African Winery Tasting with Oak Valley & Waterkloof Wineries

$10

As our regular customers know, we've been really thrilled with the quality and distinctiveness of the wines coming out of South Africa lately, and these two wineries show why! Phil visited both properties earlier this year, and we're happy to return the favor and host Nadia Barnard (Waterkloof) and Hannes Spangenberg (Oak Valley) for a wonderful drop-in tasting on Tuesday, September 17 at our Milwaukee Public Market location. Cool-climate Riesling and Pinot Noir? Biodynamically farmed Cinsault? Of course you want to try them! This is a great chance to  taste and learn more about the booming South African wine scene directly from the people involved! The wines will be:

  • Oak Valley 2018 Riesling, Elgin ($20.95)
  • Oak Valley 2018 Chardonnay, Elgin ($20.95)
  • Oak Valley 2018 Pinot Noir, Elgin ($20.95)
  • Waterkloof 2018 "False Bay" Chenin Blanc, Coastal Region ($14.95)
  • Waterkloof 2018 "Circumstance" Cinsault, Stellenbosch ($21.95)
  • Waterkloof 2015 "Circumstance" Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch ($21.95)

This is a casual drop-in tasting, so stop in any time between 5:30 - 7 p.m. to meet and talk with Nadia and Hannes  and enjoy some outstanding South African wines! Email info@thiefwine.com or call us at 414.277.7707 with any questions.

Reds Around Australia

Reds Around Australia

$15

Most people know Australia wines for its Shiraz (and for irreverent and eye-catching labels!), but there are many more wonderful styles produced, including Grenache and other Rhone-inspired blends, Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-inspired blends, Pinot Noir, and an oddball varietal or two. For this tasting we'll traverse the country and explore the range of red wines the Aussies have to offer!  Wines TBD.

Masterful Malbec

Masterful Malbec

$20

Malbec has been one of the most popular varietals in the shop ever since we opened, and shows no signs of waning. It's full-bodied but with moderate tannins, abundant fruit but not overly jammy (at least in the good examples), and is generally an excellent value, For this tasting we'll sample through several wines from Argentina and France (the home of the grape) in a range of styles and prices - join us to explore the many facets of this grape! Wines TBD.

Live music, light appetizers, and your own Riedel wine glass to keep are included!

There are two ticket levels, and both are all-inclusive - once you get a glass, you're welcome to sample whatever you'd like. Tickets are now on sale - get yours today!

General Admission ($65, tax included) includes admission from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., with the chance to sample and enjoy the 120+ wines, grouped among roughly 16 tables. Tickets are limited to 125. It's pretty awesome.

Reserve Level ($95, tax included) includes earlier access to the event, with entry at 5:30 p.m., a more intimate experience (tickets are limited to 75), and 15+ additional, higher-end wines - in addition to the wines that will be poured throughout the entire event, each pouring station will have an additional luxury-level wine that they will be pouring for the Reserve Level only. General Admission event hours are included in the Reserve Level ticket. Even more awesome.

To whet your appetite and get a sense of what to expect, check out the list of wines we poured at our Spring Grand Tasting on our Eventbrite page!
